My Astro Themes

On this page

Vault CMS turned Obsidian into the place I write this whole site. Since then I’ve built a handful of Astro themes on the same idea: your vault is the site. The links, embeds, callouts, and tags you write in Obsidian show up on the web the way you wrote them.

Every theme here works with Vault CMS and Zeku, my writing app for Astro sites if you’d rather not use Obsidian. Zeku is $39 once, with a 14-day free trial. One theme is free, and the other three are one-time purchases on my store.

Astro Modular

Astro Modular using its minimal preset

Astro Modular is the free, open-source one. It’s designed to look however you want: start from the minimal preset or turn on every feature it has, like a graph view, a command palette, and embedded Obsidian Bases. A dedicated settings plugin lets you change all of it from inside Obsidian.

I wrote more about it in Cool Astro Minimal Blog Themes. You can preview it here.

Axis

The Axis theme home page in dark mode

Axis is a premium theme for personal publishing, and it’s the closest of the bunch to what this site looks like. It’s the one to pick if you want a full-featured blog with room for projects and docs.

  • 17 color themes with dark mode
  • Projects and documentation sections
  • Linked mentions between posts, a graph view, and a command palette
  • Image galleries, Giscus comments, and three home page layouts

Live demo, docs, and it’s $49.99 on the store.

Coffer

Coffer with three notes open side by side as stacked panes

Coffer publishes your vault as a digital garden: short notes that link to each other, instead of long posts in a feed. Click a link and the note opens in a pane beside the one you came from, so you can follow a thread without losing your place.

  • Stacked panes for every link you follow
  • Sidenotes in the margin and backlinks at the end of every note
  • A graph of every note and tag, plus search
  • Obsidian Bases render as tables, cards, or lists

Live demo, and it’s $29.99 on the store.

Continuum

Continuum's panorama home page

Continuum is the newest. It’s inspired by Metro, the design language of Windows Phone and Zune. Your home page is a panorama that pans like a Windows Phone hub, and when you tap a post, its title lifts out of the list and flies up to become the header of the page you opened.

  • A panorama home page with a giant title and a background that drift as it pans
  • The continuum transition between lists and pages, and back
  • Live tiles that turn over to show their covers
  • Twenty Windows Phone accent colors, in dark or light
  • Everything works without JavaScript, and visitors who ask for less motion get none

Live demo, and it’s $29.99 on the store.

The Bundle

If you want all of it, Axis, Coffer, Continuum, and Zeku together are $99, against $148.97 bought one at a time. One license key downloads the themes and activates Zeku, on up to 3 computers.

Which One Should You Pick?

  • Want it free, or want to tweak everything? Astro Modular.
  • Want a full blog with projects and docs? Axis.
  • Write lots of short, linked notes? Coffer.
  • Want your site to have fluid animations and motion? Continuum.

If you build something with one of these, send it my way. I’d love to see it.
